John R. Hooten, an attorney who retired on December 31, 2006 from White & Allen, P.A., was inducted into the N.C. Bar Association's General Practice Hall of Fame on Thursday, June 19, 2014.
Mr. Hooten was one of the original founders of the firm. On January 1, 1966, John R. Hooten became employed as an associate of Thomas J. White, Jr., in the practice of law located in Kinston, North Carolina. During 1967, Thomas J. White, Jr. and John R. Hooten were joined in the practice of law by Thomas J. White, III and the firm changed to a partnership with the firm name of White, Hooten & White. The three practiced together as a firm until November of 1970 at which time they merged with William A. Allen, Jr. and John M. Hines. F. Fred Cheek, Jr. was an associate of the firm. The new firm name was White, Allen, Hooten and Hines. Since that time the firm has expanded significantly. The present name of the firm is White & Allen, P.A.
During the period of time that Mr. Hooten practiced law in Kinston, he was very active in civic and community affairs. He received several awards including the "Citizen of the Year" award in 1976 from the Kinston/Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce and was inducted into the Lenoir Memorial Hospital "Hall of Honor" on September 11, 2004 for his over 39 years of service to the Hospital.
Mr. Hooten now resides in Oriental, North Carolina with his wife, Esther.
